I started taking photos for my print articles when I was working as a freelance writer in New York and one of the newspapers for which I worked asked me to bring in pictures to go with my stories.

Some of my pics ended up on the cover, although this may have been due more to the newspaper’s lack of choices than to my outstanding ability. Still it was fun to add a new skill, as it was to roam the city with a notepad and a camera finding stories, to see them printed later as a whole package of my own creation.

I’d like to think that my eye –and hand– have improved since those days when I used a small point-and-shoot Canon camera. At least my equipment has, since I now use a Nikon D90 D-SLR.

Since then, major outlets like the Daily News (New York) and The Associated Press, and also magazines like Etiqueta Negra and Séptimo Sentido, have published my news photos.

Here are some examples, from my latest work and also the early days.
